Oderzo (40km)
Oderzo, known as an "Archaeological Town", "The Town with the Most Porticoes in Italy” and “A Town of Art” is a town of Roman origin that lies in the heart of the Veneto plain. The historic centre develops to the South of Piazza Grande, its main square, following the urban layout of the Roman and Medieval eras, in the area to the East of the Monticano River’s course. Piazza Grande is one of the most famous squares in the Veneto due to its special, stage-like shape and this makes it the setting for many cultural events. In the square, there is a figure of eight curve, which is commonly known as "la meridiana" (the sundial), but is in reality an analemma – probably one of the oldest in existence in Italy, which functions as a calendar, thanks to the shade of the cathedral pinnacle. The city is criss-crossed by paved streets, with buildings that date from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The"Eno Bellis" Town Architectural Museum is well worth a visit, as are the archaeological sites dotted around the town. Just a few kilometres from Oderzo is the La Madonna dei Miracoli, a basilica linked to the apparition of the Virgin in 1510 and a destination for continuous pilgrimages that bring thousands of faithful to Motta di Livenza every year.
